With the new year approaching, one of the questions many may be asking is “how to organize your closet” in hopes of organizing their lives? Yes, organizing your closet can be a time consuming task but if it’s done correctly, it will save you a lot of time in your everyday life. I personally believe you can tell a lot about a woman by the way her closet looks. If there are clothes and shoes everywhere, one can assume that the individual is unorganized. Also, how will you know what items you have if there are clothes and shoes scattered everywhere?
Prior to organizing my closet, I found myself buying similar pieces since I was unfamiliar with the items I already owned. I recently organized my closet and it took me 3 hours…yes 3 hours! I felt like it would never end but I was able to get the job done. Here are pictures of my process. Find my 3 easy steps below!
Step 1 – Remove Everything Out of Your Closet
- When organizing your closet, you should remove everything so you can start with a clean slate. It may seem like a lot of work but it will definitely hasten the process.
Step 2 – Purge
- Yes, purge! You should get rid of items that you haven’t worn within the last year because chances are you won’t wear it again. During my process, I had 2 bags – 1 for items I would throw away and the other for items I would sell / donate. Both bags filled up quickly as I found items that I would no longer wear and that I forgot I owned.
Step 3 – How to Organize Your Closet by Color
- In my closet, I have a section for dresses, shirts, skirts, jackets, accessories and etc. I suggest organizing your closet this way because you will know where to find your items when you desire to wear them. Also, in each of these sections, I organize the items based on color. This allows me to quickly find the colors I wish to wear that day. Here is a picture of my completed closet.
